Wyoming tribes move forward with casino plans

The Eastern Shoshone Tribe is joining the Northern Arapaho Tribe in efforts to open casinos.

The Eastern Shoshones plan to have a casino site chosen by the end of September. The Northern Arapahos are already building a $10.3 million facility. Both tribes reside on the Wind River Reservation.

Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal (D) plans to negotiate with the Eastern Shoshones. His administration refused to negotiate a full Class III compact with the Northern Arapahos, leading to a major victory in court for the tribe [Wyoming tribe wins Class III gaming case again].

The Arapahos are now working with the Interior Department on rules for gaming. Freudenthal hopes to use the rules as guidelines for a compact with the Shoshones.
