Michigan tribe scales back Detroit casino plans

The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians has scaled back plans for the Greektown Casino in downtown Detroit.

The tribe is the primary owner of the casino, which is currently housed in a temporary facility. But rather than build a new structure as originally planned, the tribe will renovate the gaming space and add a 400-room hotel and garage.

The tribe said it scaled back plans due to a change in leadership, a change casino management, litigation that delayed the original plans and an increase in Detroit's casino tax.
