Michigan tribe to share $79M casino settlement

The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians will share a $79 million casino settlement with a former business partner under an agreement approved in Michigan court.

The tribe won the $79 million for its successful lawsuit against the owners of Detroit casinos. The tribe had been unlawfully excluded from bidding on the casinos.

But the tribe's former business partner sued, saying he was entitled to a share of the settlement for helping the tribe with the case. Don Barden will now receive $33 million between now and 2027.
