Letters: Republicans on IGRA, Recognition and gaming

"One piece of federal legislation that needs to be repealed, or at least overhauled, is the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988.

Although I do not trust the Republican majority in Congress on too many issues, I would have thought that it would at least do something about the gaming statute, since Republicans claim that they are against privileges in the form of affirmative action and also claim that they do not want to infringe on the authority of the states.

But the Republicans have been in charge of Congress for the past 10 years or more, and have done nothing about the gaming statute."

"People need to stop living in their heads and reach into their hearts just a little bit. They might be surprised at the answer they come up with. These American Indians were here way before many of our ancestors came over from other countries and invaded this great land. The least we can do is share it honestly. Open your hearts and get out of your heads."
