Turtle Mountain Band hires architects for casino

The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa has hired architects to present plans for a proposed off-reservation casino in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

The tribe hopes to convince residents that the casino will be a "first-class operation," The Grand Forks Herald reports. A local firm and a firm with tribal experience will draw up plans to present to the public within two months.

The tribe has not received official approval to move forward with the casino. It would be the first off-reservation casino in the state.

Other tribes in North Dakota and in the region are opposing the idea.
