First Nations in Manitoba will gain control of gaming that takes place on their reserves and will share in lottery profits across the province, CBC News reports.
The new First Nations Gaming Corp. will regulate bingo, video lottery and two on-reserve casinos.
Separately, the province will share $20 million over five years with Native governments.
Chief Dennis Meeches of the Long Plain First Nation said the change represents a positive step.
Chief Ovide Mercredi of the Grand Rapids First Nation said $20 million wasn't enough for the 69 Native communities in the province.
