St. Regis Mohawk Tribe plans casino expansion


The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York announced a t $100 million-plus expansion of the casino on its reservation.

The plans calls for the relocation of the Mohawk Bingo Palace to the site of the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. The facility would feature a Class III section with 1,500 slot machines and 35 table games and a Class II section with 500 gaming machines and a 36-table poker room.

The tribe also will add a 400-room hotel, several new restaurants, a meeting space, retail space and an events center. "We are about to enter a whole new era of opportunity for the Tribe and surrounding communities with a destination resort of this kind," said Chief Lorraine White.

Separately, the tribe is pursuing an off-reservation casino in Catskills, about 90 minutes north of New York City.
