California tribe fined over pollution from casino

The United Auburn Indian Community in California has been fined $435,000 by the state for water pollution from the tribe's casino.

The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board fined the tribe $3,000 for each of 145 "serious violations" at the Thunder Valley Casino. The board said wastewater coming from the casino exceeded state levels for bacteria.

The inadequately treated wastewater ended up in tributaries of the Sacramento River.
