Los Coyotes Band meets with key lawmakers

Fasting members of the Los Coyotes Band Cahuilla and Cupeno Indians met with key lawmakers as they continued to press for approval of a stalled gaming compact.

The tribe met with Assemblyman Jerome Horton, the chairman of the Governmental Organization Committee, and Assemblyman Joe Coto, member of the committee. The panel voted 7-2 in June against the Los Coyotes compact for an off-reservation casino in Barstow.

Tribal members have been fasting for over a week on the Capitol lawn in Sacramento. They question why their deal has been delayed while another compact for the politically-connected Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians was put on the fast track.
