The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has reportedly reached a new compact with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R).
Under the deal, the tribe will be able to offer up to 7,500 slot machines in return for sharing revenues with the state. A similar deal was reached with another tribe earlier this month.
San Manuel members are meeting today to consider the compact. The tribe would need to sign a deal before the state Legislature ends its annual session on August 31.
The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the tribe that signed the first deal this month, is still awaiting legislative approval of its compact. It passed the Senate last week. The Assembly held an informational hearing yesterday.
