Narragansett Tribe sees opposition on gaming

Congress won't repeal a gaming prohibition for the Narragansett Tribe because it's "politically untenable," Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-Rhode Island) said.

Kennedy supports the repeal of the prohibition. But most of the other members of the state's Congressional delegation don't, he said.

The tribe is lobbying to change its land claims settlement act and potentially eliminate the gaming ban, which was inserted into the law after the tribe won a court decision.
