County seeks meeting to discuss Choctaw casino

Officials in Jackson County are seeking a public meeting with the new leader of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

After being sworn in as miko, or chief, Beasley Denson said he would not abide by the results of the county's non-binding referendum on the tribe's proposed off-reservation casino. He said it would be up to the Choctaws to decide whether to move forward with the project.

In response, county supervisor Frank Leach wrote to Denson, asking him to come to a public meeting. The proposed casino site is more than 200 miles from the reservation.
