Supporters of UKB casino in Arkansas hold rally

Supporters of an off-reservation casino sought by the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians held a rally in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on Wednesday.

The tribe, which is based in Oklahoma, wants to have land placed in trust for the project. But the regional Bureau of Indian Affairs office is recommending no.

The BIA in Washington will make the final decision but Gov. Mike Beebe (D) also has a role under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. Supporters of the casino are trying to convince him to back the project, though he has already said he is against it.
