Anti-casino group launches in Massachusetts

A coalition called CasinoFreeMass launched its effort to defeat gaming legislation in Massachusetts on Monday.

CasinoFreeMass plans to mobilize voters rather than lobby lawmakers. The group will be holding meetings across the state to educate people about its opposition to the legislation.

Gov. Deval Patrick (D) wants to legalize three commercial casinos. His plans gives preference to tribal applications.

The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe, backed by the Seneca Nation of New York, intends to bid on a license. The newly-recognized Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe will pursue a casino under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
