California cities seek more consultation by BIA

Local governments in California are asking the Bureau of Indian Affairs to be consulted about gaming decisions.

The League of California Cities and the California State Association of Counties plan to meet with assistant secretary Carl Artman on March 7. They say his staff has been receptive to the idea of creating more dialog.

Not only do the cities and counties want to be consulted, they want veto authority over gaming projects. They say local governments are the ones that are most impacted by tribal casinos.
