Soo Tribe's Detroit casino lays off 89 employees


The commercial casino owned by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians laid off 89 employees on Monday.

Greektown Casino is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. The tribe is seeking $150 million in loans to finish construction on a permanent facility and pay off existing debts.

The permanent facility is $107 million over its original estimated cost of $225 million, The Detroit Free Press reported.
