Navajo Nation Council passes gaming revenue plan

The Navajo Nation Council voted 58-9 to approve a gaming revenue plan.

The plan addresses how the Navajo Nation will distribute revenues from its first casino. The Fire Rock Casino in Churchrock, New Mexico, is expected to open in November.

The plan adheres to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, delegates said. The law says gaming revenues can be used for five major purposes.

IGRA allows per capita payments to individual tribal members but the tribe will not be making them.
