City wants meeting over Soboba Band casino

The city council in Hemet, California, wants to meet with the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians to discuss the tribe's casino plans.

City officials want to discuss effects of the casino on traffic, public safety, the environment and local businesses. But it doesn't appear they will object to the tribe's land-into-trust application.

The tribe plans to move the Soboba Casino to a 535-acre site. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is accepting comments on a draft environmental impact statement until September 15.
