Poarch Creeks plan to hire more at dog tracks

The Poarch Band of the Creek Indians plan to hire more people at two dog tracks in Alabama and Florida.

The tribe purchased controlling interests in the Mobile Greyhound Park in Alabama and the Pensacola Greyhound Track in Florida. About 300 people are employed at both facilities.

"This new venture will keep jobs in the Gulf Coast region and will preserve an entertainment tradition that is important to our area," PCI Gaming Authority President Jay Dorris told The Pensacola News Journal. "The families who have owned the race tracks for more than 30 years have deep and important ties to their community."

The price tag of the tribe's investment has not been reported but the News Journal said the tribe recently loaned the Pensacola track $3.4 million.
