Oklahoma tribes sue state over casino-related lawsuits

The Choctaw Nation and the Chickasaw Nation are trying to stop the Oklahoma state courts from hearing casino-related lawsuits.

In a series of rulings, the Oklahoma courts have asserted jurisdiction over casino injury claims. The courts determined that the tribal-state compact allows for cases to be heard in state court.

The tribes say the disputes should be handled in tribal courts. They filed a lawsuit in federal court against the state of Oklahoma.
