Graton Rancheria casino to be among biggest in California

The Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria are set to build one of the largest gaming facilities in California.

The casino plan envisions a 534,000 square-foot facility in Sonoma County. The facility would include 3,000 slot machines, a 200-room hotel, a 20,000 square foot spa and 82,900 square-feet for eating facilities.

The casino has been in the works since the tribe gained federal recognition through an act of Congress in 2000. One major step was cleared when the Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the tribe's land-into-trust application.

The last major hurdle was cleared with the signing of a Class III gaming compact with Gov. Jerry Brown (D).
