Little Traverse Bay Bands outline plans for 2nd gaming facility

The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians outlined plans for a $26 million casino at a village council meeting in Mackinaw City, Michigan, on Thursday.

The tribe wants to build a a 29,000 square foot casino with 550 slot machines. The facility would employ 85 to 90 people.

"We would be an anchor … an anchor establishment for the village," tribal legislative leader Melvin Kiogima said at the meeting, The Sturgis Journal reported.

The tribe's Class III gaming compact authorizes two casinos. The $140 million Odawa Casino Resort has been in operation since 2007.

Kiogima said the tribe will share 2 percent of slot revenues with the community, as required by the compact. The compact also requires local approval for the casino.
