City wants casino update from Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe

Officials in the city of Taunton, Massachusetts, are seeking a casino update from the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe in light of recent developments.

The city agreed to host the proposed First Light Resort and Casino. But provisions in a new Class III gaming compact that was announced last week could allow the tribe to expand the casino site so officials want to make sure the city is compensated.

The city also wants a copy of the tribe's land-into-trust application. The Bureau of Indian Affairs has promised a decision this spring.

The city is asking Chairman Cedric Cromwell to make an appearance before the council before the end of April.
