Penobscot Nation waits amid non-Indian gaming expansion

The Penobscot Nation has been rebuffed in efforts to offer electronic bingo games as non-Indian gaming options expand in Maine.

For the fifth year in a row, state lawmakers failed to pass a bill that would help the tribe. Yet lawmakers authorized table games at a non-Indian facility and authorized a second non-Indian facility.

“I think anyone who looks at this is going to see a level of unfairness," Chief Kirk Francis told The Bangor Daily News.

Francis said the tribe might close its paper bingo facility due to declining revenues.
