Quapaw Tribe could face competition from new casino in Kansas

The Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma might be facing some casino competition across the border in Kansas.

The Kansas Legislature approved a bill that lowers the requirements and fees for a casino in the southeast part of the state. A new facility wouldn't be far from the tribe's Downstream Casino Resort.

Back in 2008, Penn National Gaming dropped plans in southeast Kansas, citing competition from the tribe. But even if the new bill becomes law, there is no guarantee someone will seek to run the casino, which will be owned by the state.

The gaming portion of the tribe's casino is located in Oklahoma. Other portions are located in Kansas and Missouri.
