The Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians announced plans for a major expansion of the tribe's gaming facility in southern California.

The tribe will spend $285 million to add a new hotel wing with 548 rooms, a 67,000 square-foot events center, a 23,000-square-foot building with a spa, salon and fitness center and a four-acre pool complex to the Pechanga Resort & Casino.

“Almost 20 years ago we started our journey toward self-sufficiency,” Chairman Marc Macarro said in a press release. "To continue our viability and enable our competitiveness, we announce the next leg of our journey. As our region grows and matures, we must do so as well to position ourselves for the next 20 years. We believe this project will take us there.”

The project will create nearly 3,000 construction jobs and 560 permanent jobs, according to the tribe. Groundbreaking could begin in early 2015 and construction will take about two years.
