Chemehuevi Tribe expects to complete work on second gaming facility in 2019

The Chemehuevi Tribe broke ground on a new gaming facility in California.

The 25,000 square-foot facility will feature 320 gaming machines and tables, a restaurant and a marina on Lake Havasu, Today’s News-Herald reported. It's due to open in the spring of 2019.

“As we go forward, we’re not looking for economic development,” said Chairman Dennis Patch said at the ceremony on Tuesday, the paper reported. “We’re looking for economic independence."

The project includes a 48-room hotel, which will be the first lodging facility on the reservation.

The tribe already operates the Havasu Landing Resort and Casino. The new facility will be north of that site.
