Seminole Tribe creates thousands of jobs with $2.2 billion gaming expansion project

The Seminole Tribe is creating thousands of jobs in Florida as part of a $2.2 billion gaming expansion project at two facilities.

The tribe is spending $1.5 billion at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood and another $700 million at the Hard Rock in Tampa. Some 19,000 direct and indirect jobs are being created through construction, hiring and other activities, a top executive said in a blog post last month.

The direct jobs include an expected 1,200 in Hollywood and another 1,200 in Tampa. Initial job fairs took place at each location last month -- resulting in hundreds of offers made to applicants -- and another one at Hollywood is scheduled for July 7-9.

The Tampa expansion is scheduled to debut on October 3. The Hollywood project, which features a 450-foot tall hotel in the shape of a guitar, is on track to open on October 24.

“The guitar tower will attract casino players and other visitors from throughout the country and around the world,” Hard Rock International Chairman and Seminole Gaming CEO Jim Allen said in the blog post. “It will put South Florida on the map as a world-class gaming destination, and it will have a huge economic impact on Florida. The gaming industry will never be the same.”
