Eastern Cherokee Band weighs casino expansion

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is considering a a $650 million expansion of its casino in North Carolina.

The tribal council meets today to discuss the proposal. It would create more gaming space, add more rooms at the hotel and add more retail and parking space.

The effort comes amid 17.2 percent growth in the state's gaming industry. The tribe said revenues at Harrah's Cherokee Casino increased 13 percent in 2006.
