Maine governor to veto Penobscot slot bill

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

Maine Gov. John Baldacci (D) says he will veto a bill that authorizes slot machines for the Penobscot Nation.

Baldacci has promised to help the tribe with economic development. But he has repeatedly opposed efforts by the Penobscots to engage in gaming.

The latest bill allows the tribe to operate up to 100 slot machines at a facility on the Indian Island Reservation.
