The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut has completed the layoffs of 700 gaming employees.
Citing a decline in slot machine revenues and the downturn in the national economy, the tribe cut jobs at Foxwoods Resort Casino and the new MGM Grand at Foxwoods. That was about 6 percent of the entire gaming workforce. “It’s understandably very difficult for all the employees, as well as the management,” a spokesperson told The Norwich Bulletin. “We are spending as much time on a one-to-one basis as needed.” Federal and state agencies are in the region to help those who lost their jobs. Laid-off workers will receive two weeks pay for every full year of service and medical benefits for up to 26 weeks from the tribe. Get the Story:
