Wednesday, September 15, 2010

A Malaysian company with ties to tribes will operate the first casino in New York City under a contract approved by the state.

Genting will turn the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens into a casino with up to 4,525 video slot machines and other electronic gaming machines. The company says it will spend $1.3 billion on the facility, which will include two restaurants.

Genting has financed other tribal casinos in Connecticut and New York. The company is currently working with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts.
