Revenues at tribal casinos in Arizona fell 15 percent in past year

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Revenues at tribal casinos fell 15 percent in the last year, according to the Arizona Department of Gaming.

Tribes took in nearly $1.7 billion in fiscal year 2009. That's down from nearly $2 billion in 2008 and $1.9 billion in 2007.

Last year's take was also lower than nearly $1.8 billion in 2006. But it was greater than the $1.5 billion in 2005.

"We are an entertainment industry that is solely reliant on disposable income,'' Sheila Morago, the executive director of the Arizona Indian Gaming Association, told Capitol Media Services. "People just haven't had it lately.''
