The Mashpee
Wampanoag Tribe released the raft environmental impact report for its proposed casino in southeastern Massachusetts.
The tribe plans to invest $550 million on the First Light
Resort and Casino in Taunton. The report provides details of the facility, along with the impacts it will have on the 151-acre site and the surrounding community.
“We are pleased to provide this comprehensive analysis of our proposed destination resort casino in Taunton,” Chairman Cedric Cromwell said in a press release. “The publication of this report is a critical step forward and helps us keep this project on track to bring thousands of jobs to southeastern Massachusetts."
The tribe has negotiated a Class III gaming compact for the casino but it hasn't been ratified by state lawmakers.
It will have to be approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The tribe's land-into-trust application for the casino site is pending at the BIA.
