Non-Indian developer submits bid for Massachusetts casino

Monday, September 30, 2013

A non-Indian developer submitted an application for a possible commercial casino in southeastern Massachusetts.

So far, K.G. Urban Enterprises is the only bidder on the casino. The deadline to submit an application, which requires a non-refundable $400,000 fee, is 5pm today.

H.3702, the Massachusetts Expanded Gaming Act, reserved a casino in the southeastern part of the state for "a federally recognized tribe." The Massachusetts Gaming Commission, however, agreed to solicit non-Indian bids because the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe has yet to clear its biggest hurdles for the casino.

But even if the tribe does not complete the process soon, there is no guarantee that K.G. Urban will be able to open a commercial casino. The firm must pass a suitability review before moving forward.
