The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut won't be building a commercial casino in Massachusetts.

According to news reports, members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission voted 3-1 against the $1 billion $1 billion Mohegan Sun Massachusetts near Boston. They instead went with a rival project from Wynn Resorts, a company owned by billionaire Steve Wynn.

The tribe had been looking to Massachusetts as gaming revenues at the Mohegan Sun continue to fall. But the tribe was dealt a setback when voters rejected plans for a casino in the western part of the state.

The tribe then turned its eyes to the eastern part of the state. Commission members looked favorably on the project but decided Wynn Resorts had the upper hand.
