Seminole Tribe seeks approval for 537-room casino hotel tower

The Seminole Tribe of Florida is seeking local approval to build a 537-room hotel tower at one of its casinos.

The tribe might add a 1.2-million square-foot hotel to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Tampa. A height variance is needed because the tower will reach 16 floors, The Tampa Bay Tribune reported.

The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority will vote on the tribe's request today, the paper said. But a spokesperson cautioned that the project has not been finalized.

"It's still very early in the process and no formal approval has been given by the tribal council," spokesperson Gary Bitner told the paper.

The casino currently has about 280 rooms. Adding the tower would give the facility the largest number of rooms in the county.

However, the hotel would not be the tallest. The paper said the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina has 27 floors.
