Chumash Tribe celebrates $165M expansion at gaming facility

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians completed a $165 million expansion project that has brought a number of major upgrades to the California tribe's casino.

The Chumash Casino Resort now features 320 rooms and 55 suites, more than double the number when the facility first opened in 2004, The Santa Ynez Valley News reported. The new rooms are located in a 12-story tower that also features a rooftop pool deck.

Elsewhere, the tribe expanded the gaming floor, added more food outlets, renovated a poker room, expanded the spa and upgraded the Samala Showroom, the paper reported. Big names like Jerry Seinfeld and Stevie Wonder are among the first acts booked at the performance space.

The tribe also raised the minimum gambling age to 21 in order to obtain a liquor permit for a new bar at the facility. The license is provisional at the moment, the paper reported.
