The Karuk Tribe of California is finally building a $35 million casino that's been in the works for more than a decade.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday for the Rain Rock Casino. The 36,000 square-foot facility will have space for 500 gaming machines, eight table games, a 100-seat restaurant and on-site parking.

The casino is set to open in May 2017. A second phase is in the works and will include a hotel and more gaming space but the tribe hasn't said when that might happen.
