Record profits at Saskatchewan First Nations casinos

Thursday, November 2, 2006

First Nations casinos in Saskatchewan recorded record profits, according to figures from the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (http://www.siga.sk.ca).

The four casinos made $40.2 million in profits for the fiscal year that ended in March. That's up from the $33.9 million the year before.

CBC News ties the increase to a more than 50 percent decrease in revenues at non-Native casinos operated by the province. Smoking is no longer allowed in public places in Saskatchewan but the law doesn't apply to tribal land.
