The Prairie Band Potawatomi of Kansas announced plans for a Class II facility on ancestral land in Kansas.
The tribe plans a 22,000-square-foot bingo hall with 750 electronic gaming machines. The facility would be located on a 128-acre farm the tribe recently purchased. The farm is within the boundaries of a 1,280-acre reservation promised to a Potawatomi chief by an 1829 treaty. The tribe says the reservation hasn't been terminated. A state senator has asked the Bureau of Indian Affairs to look into the legality of the tribe's claim to the land. Get the Story:
