Minnesota casino plan hits another obstacle

Wednesday, May 11, 2005

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty's plan for two casinos in the Twin Cities met another snag on Tuesday when Senate Minority Leader Dick Day, a fellow Republican, said he would not support a state-tribal casino at the proposed site.

Day has long backed a bill to add slot machines to the Canterbury Park racetrack. But he said he doesn't want the proposal hindered by a state-tribal casino at the track site.

Pawlenty initially supported a state-tribal casino but merged it with the Canterbury Park plan. The new deal is facing a tough fight in the Legislature.
