The Pueblo of San Felipe announced "Black Mesa Casino" as the new name for its gaming facility in New Mexico.

The facility, formerly known as San Felipe Casino Hollywood, has been named for Black Mesa, one of the tribe's most culturally significant areas. The tribe's adjoining travel center is also getting the new name, The Santa Fe New Mexican reported.

“They’ve wanted to do this for a long time,” casino general manager Steve Penhall told the paper. “I’ve been told that this is about 17 years in the making.”

The tribe spent $12 million on remodeling the Black Mesa Travel Center, the paper reported. A remodeling of the casino, to include a new restaurant and a smoke-free area, is also in the works, the paper said.

The tribe might also be considering a "Black Mesa Hotel," according to a trademark application.
