Tribal fire crews sent to Colorado to battle blaze

Several tribes sent fire fighting crews to battle the Picnic Rock Fire in Colorado.

At one point, more than a quarter of the estimated 400 firefighters battling the blaze belonged to tribal crews, The Denver Post reported. The Seminole, Kiowa, Comanche, Creek, Cheyenne and Arapaho and the Rosebud Sioux tribes sent teams of 20 firefighters each.

Tribal firefighters say the pay is good. Most tribes follow standards higher than federal regulations.
