Penobscot Nation chief addresses Maine Legislature

Barry Dana, Chief of the Penobscot Nation, gave a State of the Tribes address to the Maine legislature on Tuesday.

Dana discussed sovereignty and the need for the state and tribes to work together on solutions to problems. He commented briefly on his tribe's failed proposal to open a casino in the state. Voters last November rejected it by a 2-1 margin.

"I still feel compelled to create economic opportunities for our nation and the non-Natives in our surrounding communities," he was quoted as saying.
