The Red Lake Nation of Minnesota is asking the Bureau of Indian Affairs to fix the tribe's crumbling water system.
Ojibwe leaders say the 100-year-old system has been broken for as long as they can remember. Pipes burst regularly, forcing the closure of tribal and school offices. Water pressure is low, threatening public safety in case of fires.
The tribe says the BIA has known about the problems for years but hasn't done anything about them. The BIA failed to provide money for $2 million upgrade project, leaders say.
