BIA won't give money to Si Tanka University

The Bureau of Indian Affairs won't give the Si Tanka University in South Monday federal money unless it meets conditions that will require dramatic changes at the institution.

The BIA will only provide funding to support Native students at the university's campus on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. The off-reservation campus in Huron will not receive money.

The funding is contingent on the school separating the on-reservation campus from the off-reservation one. The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe would have to approve the changes and Si Tanka would have to seek separate accreditation for the reservation campus.

Only after these conditions were met would the BIA release $4,390 per enrolled Native student.
