Indian mother gives up son to non-Indian couple

An Indian woman who tried to stop the adoption of her son by a non-Indian couple has changed her mind.

Juanita Good Bird, a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes of North Dakota, voluntarily terminated her parental rights over Christian, 4. She said it was in Christian's best interests to stay with Bonnie and Shannon Hofer in Minnesota.

Good Bird had challenged the adoption because she hadn't signed away her rights before a judge as required by the Indian Child Welfare Act.
