Leaders of the Navajo Nation were in Oslo, Norway, on Saturday to accept the Nuclear-Free Future Award at the Nobel Institute.

President Joe Shirley Jr. and Navajo Nation Council Delegate George Arthur attended the award ceremony. They were recognized for the tribe's stance against the mining and processing of uranium, which is used to make nuclear weapons, on the reservation.

"We honor the Navajo tribal council and George Arthur for their timely framing of the Din� Resources Protection Act of 2005, a piece of legislation that includes the final language: 'No person shall engage in uranium mining and processing on any sites within Navajo Indian Country,'" the Nuclear-Free Future Award stated [Link].
