Alito pledges to keep an 'open mind' on abortion

U.S. Supreme Court nominee Samuel A. Alito Jr. said he will keep an "open mind" on abortion despite writing legal memos that sought to overturn a woman's right to choose.

On the second day of his confirmation hearing, Alito was asked many questions about his views on Roe v. Wade. He refused to say whether he would uphold the decision or what he would do if the issue were before him as a judge.

As an attorney in the Reagan administration, Alito urged the government to try and overturn Wade.
